2026 City Lights & Stars: Huntsville: In the Mood- September 25th
There's something magical about hearing the timeless swing of Glenn Miller under the stars, and Huntsville's In the Mood brings that nostalgic sound to life with authentic big band flair. This 21-piece ensemble specializes in the classic hits from the 1940s and 50s—think "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," and toe-tapping tunes from Benny Goodman and Bobby Darin. It's music that bridges generations beautifully, letting grandparents share their favorite songs with kids who'll find themselves dancing along to rhythms that never go out of style. The mountaintop setting at Burritt adds to the ambiance, with views stretching across Huntsville as the sun sets and the music begins. Gates open at 6:00 pm on September 25th, with the concert starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets range from $25 to $60, and you can enhance the evening with an optional $30 BBQ dinner served at 6:00 pm (reservations close the Tuesday before at noon). Bring your blankets and lawn chairs for a classic picnic-style concert experience, or grab something from the onsite food trucks. Beer and wine are available for purchase, though outside alcohol isn't permitted. If you're planning the dinner upgrade, you'll enjoy pulled pork and chicken with all the fixings served at tables with that famous Burritt view. This event welcomes all ages, making it a wonderful multi-generational outing where little ones can spread out on blankets while older kids and adults enjoy the smooth sounds of swing. Online ticket sales close at 4:00 pm the day of the concert, and member presales begin March 15th with general sales opening April 1st. The concert moves to the Bendickson Family Pavilion if rain is forecast by 3:00 pm that afternoon.
