Gardening with Kids: Garden Artists • Colors and Dyes from Nature
Families ready to explore the science of color will love this hands-on workshop at Huntsville Botanical Garden. Garden Artists: Colors and Dyes from Nature invites children ages 3-12 and their grown-ups to discover how plants produce the vibrant hues we see all around us. Through simple experiments and garden exploration, kids learn that flowers and leaves aren't just pretty—they're natural color factories waiting to share their secrets. This program balances learning with creativity, making it ideal for curious preschoolers and elementary-aged children who love getting their hands dirty. The class takes place on May 23 at 10:00 AM, though the exact meeting location within the garden will be shared via email after registration. Families will start with a color scavenger hunt through the garden, then create a flower-pounding project to bring home—a beautiful keepsake that shows nature's pigments in action. Garden members pay $35 per child, while non-members pay $60. Additional adults can join for $15, and extra activity kits are available for $15 each. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. Since this is a participatory workshop, parents of children under five should plan on one-on-one supervision—the garden recommends no more than one young child per adult. Expect to spend time outdoors, so dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes suitable for garden paths. The program is led by Huntsville Botanical Garden's education staff, who bring experience teaching science and nature topics to all ages. Your registration supports the garden's nonprofit mission of conservation and education.
