Parents need a break, and Huntsville Parks and Recreation understands that. On Friday, April 17, Fern Bell Recreation Center is offering a free evening of supervised fun for elementary and middle school-aged kids while parents enjoy a few hours to themselves. Children will participate in games, crafts, and group activities in a safe, structured environment with recreation staff. It's a win-win: kids get an exciting Friday night with friends, and parents get some much-needed time for a dinner date, errands, or simply relaxing at home. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fern Bell Recreation Center on Sanders Road in Huntsville, and it's completely free—no cost for registration or participation. This program is designed for kids ages 6 through 12, making it ideal for families with elementary-aged children who are ready for a few hours of independent social time. Because spots can fill quickly for these popular parent relief events, advance registration is required and recommended as soon as possible. Plan to drop off your child at 5 p.m. and return for pickup by 8 p.m. Send your child with a water bottle and any necessary medications, though snacks and activities will be provided. If your child has specific dietary restrictions or needs, contact the recreation center ahead of time to ensure staff are prepared.
