Garden Care: Marie's Garden

The Garden Gnomes volunteer group invites families to help care for Marie's Garden at Blevins Gap Nature Preserve, a hands-on opportunity to support pollinator habitat while enjoying one of Huntsville's scenic natural spaces. Kids ages 5-14 can learn the basics of garden stewardship—weeding, watering, mulching, and seasonal planting—while working alongside other families in this welcoming outdoor community. No gardening experience is necessary, making this an ideal introduction to environmental volunteering for curious children and their parents. This workday begins at 8:00 AM on August 13, 2026, at the Blevins Gap Trailhead on Cecil Ashburn Drive SE. There's no cost to participate, but advance registration is required, with each family member needing their own registration and signed waiver (parents can register on behalf of children). The Land Trust provides extra tools, work gloves, and water, though you'll want to bring your own water bottle, snacks, and gloves if you have them. Everyone should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes suitable for working outdoors. Plan for a morning of productive fun with rewarding views and the chance to connect with other families who care about Huntsville's green spaces.
