Trail Build: Blevins Gap

Families looking for a meaningful outdoor adventure can join the Land Trust of North Alabama for a hands-on trail-building project at Blevins Gap Nature Preserve. This volunteer day focuses on extending Bailey Cove Trail to create a new loop at Blevins Gap North, giving families a chance to work together while contributing to Huntsville's growing trail system. No previous experience is necessary—just a willingness to spend a morning in nature doing work that will benefit the community for years to come. Kids and adults alike will learn basic trail-building techniques while enjoying the satisfaction of leaving the preserve better than they found it. The work begins at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at the Walsingham Trailhead (7855 Walsingham Road SE). To get there from Cecil Ashburn Drive, turn left at the first traffic signal onto Donegal Drive SE, then proceed four-tenths of a mile before turning left onto Walsingham Road. Volunteers should be prepared for a moderately active morning—the project involves hiking up to three miles with more than 250 feet of elevation change. Come wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring bug spray, sunscreen, work gloves, eye protection, and plenty of water. Registration is required for each participant, including children, as everyone must sign a waiver (guardians can register on behalf of minors). This event welcomes all ages, making it ideal for families who want to introduce children to conservation work and outdoor stewardship. If weather or trail conditions force a cancellation, registered participants will receive an email notification.
